About Us
How it all began
About Us – Stars Dance Academy is a Stockport-based organisation committed to sharing the enjoyment of Dance. It was founded by Sally Tommony in January 2012. After beginning Ballet, Tap and Modern dance classes at age 2.5, Sally developed a love for Dance and Music. She then went on to continue dancing all the way through Primary & High School as well as taking up Piano lessons at the age of 9. Sally completed A Level Dance & Music along with her Grade 8 Piano aged 18 and then went on to study all aspects of Dance Performance, Teaching, Choreography and Theory at Edge Hill University.
A love for teaching
Sally went on to dance professionally after graduating with a First Class Honours in Dance and then went on to open the Academy in response to her love for teaching. Since opening over 11 years ago, the business has developed in several different directions. Stars Dance Academy takes pride in offering something for everyone from early years all the way through to adults.
Sally is supported by a committed team of professionals including Kerry, the Academy’s other main teacher and Sarah, an Early Years Specialist.
Meet our team
Kerry Upton
Kerry trained at Edge Hill University to gain her First Class Honours in Dance. She went on to do two cruise ship seasons where she gained performance experience along with developing her skills to work with children of all ages. Following this, Kerry began to work at Stars Dance Academy on a more permanent basis after building a relationship with the school before working on the cruise ships. She began with a small amount of classes which has now grown to over 20 classes per week and is ever rising. Kerry’s specialisms within the academy are her creative contemporary performance pieces, energetic and inspiring routines and most importantly, sharing the academy’s enjoyment of Dance.
Saturday Girls
Our Elite dancers have trained to the highest level of our Performance Academy. Many of them have been dancing at Stars Dance Academy since the day it opened and have shown great loyalty and commitment to the school. As a consequence of being trained in the standards and ethos of the academy, these girls now help at our younger classes on a Saturday and also during the holidays at our camps. They perform as a great team together and love to take part in carnivals, celebrations, festivals and shows on a regular basis.
